What are the three type of wiper blade ?

May 26, 2026

Wiper blades are essential auto parts for clearing rain, snow, dust and other impurities on the car windshield, ensuring clear driving vision in various weather conditions. According to different structural designs, working principles and performance characteristics, wiper blades are mainly divided into three mainstream types on the market: Flat wiper blade, Conventional wiper blade, and Hybrid wiper blade. Each type has unique structural features, working mechanisms and applicable scenarios, showing distinct differences in wiping effect, durability and wind resistance performance.

Flat wiper blade, also widely known as the boneless wiper blade, is a mainstream upgraded product of traditional wiper blades with a streamlined and integrated structure. Unlike traditional structured wipers, it abandons the cumbersome metal bracket skeleton design. Its core working component is a high-toughness memory spring steel sheet built inside the rubber strip. Relying on the precise arc curvature of the memory spring steel sheet itself, the wiper blade can automatically fit the radian of the car windshield and evenly press the entire rubber strip tightly against the glass surface. This integrated pressure conduction mode eliminates the problem of uneven stress caused by multi-point support. It delivers a smoother and more comprehensive wiping effect without blind spots, and features low noise during operation. In addition, the simple and lightweight structure effectively reduces wind resistance during high-speed driving and is not easy to accumulate dust and sundries, greatly improving both service life and driving safety.

Conventional wiper blade, commonly referred to as the bone wiper blade, is the earliest and most classic wiper blade structure applied to automobiles, featuring a mature and stable mechanical design. The biggest feature of this wiper is its multi-level metal skeleton support structure. It relies on multiple evenly distributed support points on the rigid skeleton to transfer the downward pressure from the wiper arm to the rubber strip. The scientific layout of these support points enables the pressure to be uniformly dispersed on each contact part of the wiper blade, making the rubber strip fully and closely attached to the windshield. With stable pressure output and strong structural firmness, conventional wiper blades have excellent pressure resistance and abrasion resistance. They are highly adaptable to various ordinary windshields and harsh working environments, easy to install and maintain, and cost-effective. Although its segmented skeleton structure will produce slight wind resistance at high speeds and have a relatively ordinary appearance, its reliable and durable performance still makes it widely used in most ordinary family cars and commercial vehicles.

Hybrid wiper blade, also called the three-section wiper blade, is a high-performance composite product that integrates the advantages of boneless and conventional wiper blades, absorbing the structural strengths of both types while making innovative optimizations. On the basis of inheriting the excellent fitting performance of boneless wipers, it adopts a segmented hybrid skeleton design, combining flexible memory spring steel sheets and lightweight support structures. The overall appearance of the hybrid wiper blade is equipped with exquisite and streamlined diversion structures. This unique aerodynamic design can effectively guide airflow when the vehicle is driving at high speed and in strong wind, greatly reducing wind pressure impact and vibration of the wiper. It makes the wiping operation more stable and smooth, while also upgrading the overall appearance to be more concise and beautiful. Moreover, the optimized segmented skeleton structure enables the wiper blade to fit the glass surface more closely and accurately than ordinary models. The built-in high-elasticity spring steel sheets can buffer and decompose the extrusion force of the skeleton on the rubber strip in real time, avoiding excessive local wear of the rubber strip. This ingenious structural design not only saves the driving force of the wiper motor and realizes labor-saving operation, but also effectively delays the aging and wear of the rubber strip, ensuring long-term stable wiping performance and greatly extending the service life of the wiper blade.
